A new article co-authored by Kathy Dodworth (King's College London) and Jana Hönke (University of Bayreuth) has been published. The article examines Chinese companies and social organisations operating in African contexts and proposes a practice-oriented, dynamic approach to legitimacy that moves beyond traditional conceptual frameworks.
Titled "Non-state Legitimation as Practice: The Multiplicit Making of Public Authority in Afro-Chinese Engagements," the article explores how non-state actors construct and negotiate legitimacy in Afro-Chinese engagements.
The research was supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and builds on the authors' previous collaborative work on the legitimation practices of NGOs, social organisations, and companies in the context of a changing global order.
