Disruption: Launch Event of the C³ Research Center

On 27 October 2026, the Conflict, Crisis, and Change Research Center (C³) at the University of Bayreuth will celebrate its official launch with a roundtable discussion on Disruption.
The C³ was established on the initiative of Prof. Dr. Jana Hönke and the research network “Deutungskämpfe im Übergang”, which is coordinated at our Chair of Sociology in Africa. Jana Hönke, who currently serves as Director of the C³, will also moderate the launch event.
What does disruption mean, and how does it shape contemporary conflicts and political change?
Disruption has become a common term in discussions about contemporary crises. From disruptions in global supply chains to changes in national and international political systems, a sense of rupture shapes many public debates about ongoing conflicts and political developments.
The roundtable brings together perspectives from different disciplines to explore what disruption actually means, how it influences conflicts and their outcomes, and how it can help us rethink our understanding of time, historical change, and uncertain futures.
The event will begin with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible, President of the University of Bayreuth.
Panelists:
Prof. Dr. Nina Nestler, Professor of Criminal Law, University of Bayreuth
Prof. Dr. Cindy Wittke-Hohlfeld, Professor of Eastern European History, University of Regensburg
Prof. Dr. Joschka Philipps, Professor of Sociology of Insecurity and Uncertainty, University of Bayreuth
