INAS Willkommen Poster

Welcome back to a new semester of Interdisciplinary African Studies! And a particularly warm welcome to all first-year students who are new to our university and our programme!

We are looking forward to an inspiring semester full of exciting seminars and lectures across a wide range of disciplines.

Once again, this semester offers a diverse selection of courses: From introductions to African Politics, Global Political Sociology, and Social and Cultural Anthropology to methodology courses such as Ethnographic Research: Theory and Practice, as well as seminars on Religion and Feminism in Africa, Intellectuals in Exile, or Textiles, Textile Trade and Fashion in Africa. And that's just a small glimpse of what this semester has to offer!

We are looking forward to exchanging ideas, lively discussions, and exploring new perspectives together. Beyond the classroom, there is also plenty happening at the university! Throughout the semester, you can join workshops, talks, and other events, many of which are organised by the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence and regularly take place at the Forschungszentrum Afrika (FZA) or the Iwalewahaus. So keep an eye out for announcements and upcoming events!

As INAS is a relatively small programme, it's easy to get to know each other and connect. We're looking forward to coming together across different semesters and degree programmes, sharing ideas, and making new connections, including with students from the M.A. African Studies programme.

To everyone new to Bayreuth, the university, or INAS: We hope you settle in well! And please don't hesitate to reach out to us, whether you have questions, suggestions, or simply feel like having some company for your next coffee break.

Wishing you all a great start to the winter semester 2026/27!
