Postcolonial Hierarchies in Peace & Conflict
How do colonial legacies continue to shape today's power relations, conflicts and inequalities? And how are these hierarchies challenged and transformed?
These and other questions are explored by the research network Postcolonial Hierarchies in Peace & Conflict, of which Prof. Dr. Jana Hönke and our postdoctoral researcher Dr. Joshua Akintayo are members.
From 5 to 8 October 2026, the network came together at Philipps University Marburg for its second Think Lab of the current funding phase.
This year's theme, “Contesting Hierarchies: Utopia and Future-Making in a Postcolonial World”, focused on how alternative futures are imagined and shaped in contexts marked by colonial legacies and contemporary inequalities.
The programme brought together different perspectives on migration, justice, infrastructures, socioecological futures and the role of utopia in challenging existing power structures. Alongside panel discussions, it included keynote lectures, a film screening and a public book talk.
