Person
Samira Marty is Akademische Rätin a.Z. in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Bayreuth. Her research is interested in how the past informs the present and what contemporary sociopolitical challenges arise from it. Samira Marty’s current research project addresses the revolutionary afterlives of the former West German Red Army Faction (RAF), focusing on the far right's strategic use of this history of violence and on the gendered, historically rooted construction of the public image of terrorists.
She was a Charles E. Scheidt Postdoctoral Fellowat the Institute for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention at Binghamton University (USA) and holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Oslo. Previous research stays included the University of Cambridge, the Graduate Institute Geneva and the University of Arizona (Tucson).
She is co-editor-in-chief of Anthropology in Action and an Early Career Fellow at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) at Bielefeld University.
Her research has been supported by the Ryoichi Sasakawa Post-Doctoral Research Grant (2022 and 2024), a Charles E. Scheidt Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Ibero-American Institute in Berlin, and the University of Bayreuth's Talent Fund, among others.
