The project “Students BeWegt 2.0“ is a continuation of the project “Smart Moving“ and focuses on physical activity and sedentary behaviour among students at the university. It also investigates the students’ wellbeing and ability to concentrate combined with movement-enhancing interventions on campus. Part of the evaluation addresses the extent to which mobility-enhancing measures can be implemented in a higher education setting with/without an accompanying approach to a “healthy university”.

- BeWeg: The network of routes with different-colored floor markings is designed to encourage students to be more active on campus through the use of nudging.
- AktivPause: Usually halfway through a class or at specific times in the library, a stretching and strength-building program is conducted, led by a coach on-site or digitally.
- Walkolution (© Walkolution GmbH): The treadmill workstation is designed to encourage students to study while standing or walking in the library.
- Flex Your Mind: The university library offers various exercises for movement, relaxation, and mobility via a website, which students can use at any time and tailored to their specific needs.
- Exercise and Sports Partner Exchange: Through the university platform, students can network to search for and find workout partners.
- Bringing Movement into (Online) Teaching: This seminar provides instructors with theoretical knowledge and practical methods to make their courses more active for students.
Objective
Increasing daily physical activity among college students
Content-related objectives
The primary objective of the Students BeWegt 2.0 project is to increase daily physical activity in the university setting by boosting daily activity levels while on campus and promoting active mobility, as well as reducing sedentary behavior among students. In addition, by changing movement and sitting habits and through improved, digitally supported communication about physical activity promotion at the university, the project aims to enhance students’ focus on daily physical activity and increase their ability to concentrate as well as their subjective well-being. In a participatory process, the following six measures for promoting physical activity were (further) developed and evaluated in collaboration with university staff and representatives of the target groups.
The results of the project will be published and made available to a broad audience with the aim of implementing them at other universities as well.
