Julian Fink is Professor of Practical Philosophy at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. He is currently on leave from Bayreuth to serve as Rector of Albanian University in Tirana.
He is also an External Lecturer in European Studies at Hochschule Burgenland, Austria, and an Honorary Member of the Academic Senate of Albanian University.
Academic Background
Julian received his BPhil (2005) and DPhil (2010) in Philosophy from the University of Oxford, under the supervision of John Broome and Krister Bykvist. He completed his BA in Philosophy & Economics at the University of Bayreuth in 2003.
Before taking up his professorship at Bayreuth in 2017, he held research and teaching appointments at the University of Bern as an SNF Research Fellow (2014–2017); the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management as Assistant Professor of Philosophy (2016); the Slovak Academy of Sciences as a Member and International Fellow (2014–2015); and the University of Bayreuth as Lecturer in Philosophy & Economics (2013–2014). Earlier appointments included an ERC Research Fellowship at the University of Vienna (2010–2013) and a Norwegian Research Council Fellowship at the Centre for the Study of Mind in Nature, University of Oslo (2009–2010).
He also held guest professorships at the University of Vienna (2016) and the University of Graz (2014), and the Adam Smith Guest Professorship in Philosophy & Economics at Bayreuth (2012–2013).
Research Specialisations
Rationality, reasoning and normativity; theoretical ethics; and the nature of Nazi law.
