The MA Program has a very simple structure but sometimes it can still be difficult to navigate through academic life. Here is some advice on how to make your life easier.

The Welcome Services of the University of Bayreuth advise and support all international students and researchers before, during, and after their stay at the University of Bayreuth. Here, you will find helpful information on the start of your studies, orientation events, and further administrative steps.
Note that individual courses might deviate from these, especially when jointly taught, and that this only applies to the courses offered by members of the philosophy department. Courses offered by other faculties (Economics, CS, etc.) are not covered by these guidelines.
Deadlines for registration to courses:
Lectures and weekly seminars:
Registration opens 4 weeks before beginning of the teaching semester (Vorlesungszeit), closes at the end of the second week of the teaching semester.
Block seminars:
Registration opens 4 weeks before the beginning of the teaching semester, and closes one week after the information session (or without information session: opens 6 weeks before the seminar and closes 2 weeks before the seminar takes place).
Deadlines for registration to examinations:
Registration to exams (for lectures):
Opens 4 weeks before the end of the teaching semester, closes one week before the exam.
Registration for seminar assessments (e.g. term paper topics), both block and weekly:
Opens until one week after the end of the seminar.
Deadline for handing in term papers:
3 weeks before the end of the semester (so either end of first week of September or end of first week of March)
Further Information for Applicants
Applicants should have a background in philosophy & economics, economics, or a related discipline with an economics component (e.g., business/management, political science). To be admitted, a grade point average from your Bachelor’s degree of 2.3 or better according to the German grading scale is required. You must also have an excellent command of written and spoken English. If you are unsure whether you qualify, do not hesitate to contact us. We are open to talented and ambitious applicants who want to enter the field.
We are running a rolling admissions policy. Applications for each academic year will be accepted from March 1st. We advise you to apply as early as possible. The latest possibility for application is August 31st of each year.
You can apply prior to having completed your Bachelor’s degree. In this case, we will only make you a conditional offer for a place in the program. You have to submit your final Bachelor’s degree certificate until the end of your first semester in Bayreuth in order to continue your studies.
We will accept applications from EU-students until August 31st. Non-EU students are strongly recommended to apply before July 15th due to possible delays in obtaining visas, etc. International applications are prechecked using uni-assist, an external non-profit organization formed by German universities. If you need support in the application process or want to check the eligibility of your application upfront, please contact pe-master@uni-bayreuth.de.

All relevant information regarding the requirements for entry into the program is contained in the Application Form and the list of Frequently Asked Questions (below). Please read this information carefully.

2. You also need two confidential academic references. Please download the Confidential Academic Reference Form (Microsoft Word file) and forward it to your referees. All instructions are contained therein.
